The Story of The Supremes from the Mary Wilson Collection
13 May - 19 October 2008

A fabulous display of performance costumes worn by The Supremes, one of the most successful groups of the 1960s. The display showcases their changing image from their early days as The Primettes to the glamorous Hollywood designs they wore at the height of their fame, and looks at their continuing stylistic influence on performers such as Beyoncé.

Original media sources will examine The Supremes as the stars of Motown Records whose highly visible success story helped change racial perceptions during the time of the American Civil Rights movement.

Admission charge will apply.

Based on five plays recorded by the V&A Theatre Collections in 2005-07, the exhibition features the Roundhouse's A Midsummer Night's Dream and the Young Vic's Ikrismas Kherol.

Oliver Messel, Britain's leading stage designer of the mid-20th century, was renowned for his mastery of period style in revues, plays, musicals, operas and ballets. The exhibition Oliver Messel - Making and Doing can be seen at the Westminster Reference Library, London until 7 June.

Finally, The Dressing Room - photographs by Simon Annand, a series of photographs showing a rare glimpse of the more private face of famous actors, will be exhibited at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to coincide with the SIBMAS conference ‘Capturing the Essence of Performance: the challenge of intangible heritage' on 25 - 29 August.
